T20 World Cup 2024 – How many teams get qualified?

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 will feature 20 teams, the largest number of teams ever to participate in this tournament. This expansion from previous editions reflects the ICC’s efforts to make the tournament more inclusive and provide opportunities for a wider range of teams to compete at the highest level.

Automatic Qualifiers:

Hosts: The United States and West Indies automatically qualify as the host nations.

Top Teams from 2022: The top eight teams from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 have qualified. These teams are Australia, England, India, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, and Sri Lanka.

Top-Ranked Teams: Afghanistan and Bangladesh also qualified based on their ICC T20I team rankings as of November 14, 2022.

Regional Qualifiers:

The regional qualifiers provided eight additional teams, bringing the overall number of participating teams to 20.

Here are the teams from specific regional qualifiers who also made it to the main round of the T20 World Cup 2024 edition

  • Africa: Namibia and Uganda
  • Asia: Oman and Nepal
  • Europe: Scotland and Ireland
  • Americas: Canada
  • East Asia-Pacific (EAP): Papua New Guinea

West Indies, England, India, Australia, Pakistan, New Zealand, South Africa and Bangladesh have featured in all the previous eight editions. Meanwhile, USA, Canada and Uganda will be making their T20 World Cup debuts.USA, Canada, Namibia, Scotland, Oman, Papua New Guinea, Uganda, the Netherlands and Nepal are the nine associate teams taking part in the competition.
