The Super 8 stages begin just after the finish of the league stages and as the term depicts, only the top 8 teams will contest in this phase. Top 2 sides from each of the four groups in the league phase will progress to this stage.

The following is the four groups in the league stages from where we will find teams that will feature in the Super 8s.

Group A: India, Pakistan, Ireland, Canada, USA

Group B: England, Australia, Namibia, Scotland, Oman

Group C: New Zealand, West Indies, Afghanistan, Uganda, Papua New Guinea

Group D: South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Netherlands, Nepal

The Super 8 will see teams once again grouped, but this time only into two as opposed to four in the league phase. Teams that finish in top 2 of each group will advance to the Super 8 and this will be the scenario.

Group 1:  A1, B2, C1 and D2

Group 2:  A2, B1, C2 and D1

As per the pre-tournaments seedings, India will be A1, Australia B2 New Zealand C1 and Sri Lanka D2. But the important criterion for these sides is that they need to among the top 2 in their respective league stages. Should they qualify, these sides will part of the Group 1 Super 8 stage.

Likewise, Group 2 will see Pakistan A2, England B1, West Indies C2 and South Africa D1 being clubbed with each other. Again, these sides need to finish in the top 2 of the respective group and the position doesn’t matter.

In case, any of these sides fail to qualify in the top 2, the qualified team will take their place.

Here the top 2 sides from each of Group 1 & Group 2 will progress to the Knockout phase and that will be the Semi-finals. The victors of those games will face off in the final to determine the champion of 9th edition of ICC World T20 June 29 at Barbados.
