5. Ajantha Mendis: 15 Wickets | 2012

Former Sri Lankan mystery spinner Ajantha Mendis took 15 wickets at an economy rate of 6.1 in the 2012 T20 World Cup edition.

He helped his team reach the finals of the tournament, which Sri Lanka eventually lost by 36 runs, but in the finals too, Mendis bowled a spell of 4 overs for 12 runs, taking 4 wickets.

Ajantha’s best bowling figures in the tournament came against Zimbabwe in the first match of the tournament. Sri Lanka scored 182/4 from their 20 overs, and in response, Zimbabwe were bowled out for 100 runs, with Ajantha picking up 6 wickets for 8 runs from his 4 overs.

 

4. Jasprit Bumrah: 15 Wickets | 2024

Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah took 15 wickets in 8 matches at an economy rate of 4.17 in the 2024 edition of the T20 World Cup. Bumrah was rewarded with the Player of the Tournament trophy for his stellar performance

He started the tournament with consecutive Player of the Match awards for picking up 2 wickets for 6 runs in 3 overs against Ireland and 3 wickets for 14 runs in 4 overs against Pakistan.

In the semi-final against England, Bumrah picked up 2 wickets for 12 runs in 2.3 overs, and in the final against South Africa, he picked up 2 wickets for 18 runs in 4 overs.

 

3. Wanindu Hasaranga: 16 Wickets | 2021

Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga picked up 16 wickets in the 2021 T20 World Cup edition. The leg spinner played 8 matches in the 2021 edition, picking up 6 wickets at an economy rate of just 5.2.

Hasaranga’s best bowling figures of the 2021 T20 World Cup came against the Netherlands, when he picked up 3 wickets for 9 runs in his 3 overs spell. The Netherlands were bundled for 44 runs in 10 overs.

 

2. Arshdeep Singh: 17 Wickets | 2024

India’s left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh picked up 17 wickets in 8 matches in the 2024 edition of the T20 World Cup. Arshdeep played a major role in India’s T20 World Cup win in 2024.

He consistently picked up wickets in powerplay and bowled well in the death overs. Arshdeep Singh’s best performance in the tournament came against the USA, where he picked up 4 wickets for 9 runs in 4 overs.

 

1. Fazalhaq Farooqi: 17 Wickets | 2024

Fazalhq Farooqi, the Afghani left-arm seamer, picked up 17 wickets at an economy rate of 6.3 in the T20 World Cup 2024.

Farooqi started the tournament with a 5-wicket haul against Uganda, and in Afghanistan’s historic win against New Zealand, Farooqi picked up 4 wickets for 17 runs from his 3.2 overs.

With Farooqi’s impressive performances, Afghanistan reached the semi-final of the 2024 edition, which was their first semi-final appearance in an ICC event.
