5. Virat Kohli (India)

Former Indian captain Virat Kohli smashed 35 sixes in his 35-match T20 World Cup career. The right-hander scored 1292 runs — the most by a batter in the T20 World Cup — at an average of 58.72 and a strike rate of 128.81.

 

4. David Warner (Australia)

Australian left-handed opener David Warner, who is known for his explosive batting, smashed 40 sixes in 41 matches. The left-hander accumulated 984 runs in T20 World Cup history, at an average above 25 and at a strike rate of more than 130.

Warner’s best performance in the T20 World Cup came in the 2021 edition, where he scored 289 runs in 7 innings and smashed 10 sixes. Warner played a match-winning knock in the final against New Zealand, scoring 53 off 38 deliveries with the help of 3 sixes. Australia won the final by 7 wickets.

 

3. Jos Buttler (England)

Jos Buttler, England’s white-ball captain and the opener of their T20 team, has 43 sixes to his name in 34 matches. The wicketkeeper-batter has scored 1013 runs in the T20 World Cup so far, at an average of over 40 and a strike rate above 145.

Jos Buttler led England to win the T20 World Cup in 2022. He scored 225 runs in 6 innings and smashed 7 sixes in the tournament.

Buttler played one of his best knocks of the T20 World Cup against India in the second semi-final of the 2022 edition. Buttler, in a run chase of 169 runs, scored 80* runs from 49 balls, a knock consisting of 3 sixers.

 

2. Rohit Sharma (India)

Indian captain Rohit Sharma has smashed 50 sixes in the history of the T20 World Cup, playing 47 matches. The right-handed opener is the second-highest run scorer in the T20 World Cup, scoring over 1220 runs, averaging around 35, and having a strike rate of 130.

1. Chris Gayle (West Indies)

Chris Gayle has smashed the most sixes in the history of the T20 World Cup. The left-handed opener represented the West Indies in 33 T20 World Cup matches, smashing 63 sixes from 31 innings and scoring 965 runs at an average of 34 and a striker rate of 143.

The West Indies won the T20 World Cup in 2012 and 2016, and Gayle played a crucial role both times. In the 2012 edition, Chris Gayle smashed 16 sixes, which was the highest number in that edition, and in 2016, he smashed 11 sixes.

The hard-hitting opener lit up the inaugural T20 World Cup match by scoring 117 runs from 57 balls, a knock consisting of 10 sixes, and it came against the hosts, South Africa.
