5. Shane Watson: 15 Sixes | 2012

Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson opened the innings for the Aussies in the 2012 T20 World Cup. He hit 15 sixes for them and ended the tournament as the highest run scorer with 249 runs from 6 matches at an average of 49.8 and a strike rate of 150.

Shane Watson’s best innings in the tournament came against India in match 16 at the R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. Australia were chasing the target of 141 runs, which they achieved in 14.1 overs, with Shane Watson smashing 72 runs from 42 balls and hitting 7 sixes in his innings.

4. Rohit Sharma: 15 Sixes | 2024

Indian opener Rohit Sharma hit 15 sixes in the T20 World Cup 2024. Rohit, who led India in the 2024 edition, finished with the most sixes for his team. And he was also the second-highest run-scorer in the 2024 edition, scoring 257 runs in 8 matches at an average of 36.71 and a strike rate of 156.

Rohit Sharma played a crucial role in India’s T20 World Cup triumph. In India’s last Super 8 stage match against Australia, he scored 92 runs from 41 balls, helping his team win the match by 24 runs.

Continuing his great form, Rohit scored 57 runs from 39 balls against England in the semi-final 2 of the T20 World Cup 2024. India won the match by a margin of 68 runs.

 

3. Chris Gayle: 16 Sixes | 2012

Chris Gayle, who has hit a total of 63 sixes in T20 World Cup history, smashed 16 out of them in the 2012 edition when the West Indies won their first T20 World Cup trophy. The left-hander made a major contribution to the Windies’s win.

Chris Gayle single-handedly won the semi-final for the West Indies against Australia. Gayle smashed 75* runs from 41 balls, including 6 sixes, against a lethal bowling attack of the Aussies.

 

2. Rahmanullah Gurbaz: 16 Sixes | 2024

Afghanistan’s wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz finished the 2024 edition as the highest run scorer, and he hit 16 sixes in the tournament, just one less than Nicholas Pooran.

In 8 innings, Gurbaz scored 281 runs at an average of 35 and a strike rate of 124 with 3 fifties and a high score of 80 runs.

In the T20 World Cup 2024, Afghanistan beat New Zealand and Australia. In both matches, Gurbaz smashed fifties, scoring 80 against New Zealand and 60 against the Aussies.

 

1. Nicholas Pooran: 17 Sixes | 2024

West Indies wicketkeeper batter Nicholas Pooran holds the record for hitting the most sixes in a single edition of a T20 World Cup. He achieved this feat in the 2024 edition of the T20 World Cup, where he hit 17 sixes in 7 innings.

Out of 17 sixes, he hit 8 against Afghanistan, where he scored 98 runs from 53 balls, helping his team win the match by 104 runs.

The previous record for hitting the most sixes in a T20 World Cup edition was held by Chris Gayle. He hit 16 sixes in the 2012 edition of the T20 World Cup.
