In this article, we will talk about the top 10 fielders with the most catches in a single innings in T20 World Cup history.

 

10. David Warner (Australia): 3 catches vs Pakistan, 2010

David Warner took 3 catches against Pakistan in the second semi-final of the 2010 T20 World Cup. Pakistan batting first scored 191/6 in their 20 overs, and Umar Akmal top-scored for them with his knock of 56* runs from 32 balls.

In the run chase, David Warner was dismissed for a duck, but Cameron White’s 43-run knock and Michael Hussey’s 60 runs from 24 balls ensured Australia’s win with 1 ball remaining.

Despite failing with the bat, David Warner contributed to his team with 3 catches. The left-handed opener has taken around 20 catches in the history of the T20 World Cup.

 

9. Kane Williamson (New Zealand): 3 catches vs Bangladesh, 2012

In the T20 World Cup 2012, Kane Willamson took 3 catches against Bangladesh at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. In the same match, Brendon McCullum smashed 123 runs from 58 balls. New Zealand scored 191/3 runs from their 20 overs, and in response, they restricted Bangladesh to 132/8 in 20 overs and won the match by 59 runs.

Interestingly, Kane Williamson didn’t bat for New Zealand in this match, but he contributed to the win with his 3 catches, which involved a crucial catch of Shakib Al Hasan. The right-handed batter has more than 15 catches to his name in T20 World Cup history from around 25 matches.

 

8. Suresh Raina (India): 3 catches vs South Africa, 2012

Suresh Raina, one of the finest fielders in the history of Indian cricket, won a match for India with his all-round effort against South Africa in the 2014 T20 World Cup. Suresh Raina scored 45 runs from 34 balls, taking India’s score to 152/6, and then the Indian bowlers bowled out South Africa for 151 runs in 19.5 overs.

Suresh Raina grabbed 3 catches, with the most important catch being of Faf du Plessis, who was batting on 65 runs from 38 balls. Raina took 11 wickets in the T20 World Cup from 26 innings.

 

7. Dwayne Bravo (West Indies): 3 catches vs Bangladesh, 2014

The Caribbean all-rounder Dwayne Bravo took 3 catches against Bangladesh in the 2014 T20 World Cup. Batting first, the West Indies scored 171/7 runs in 20 overs, and Dwayne Smith top-scored with his knock of 72 runs from 43 balls.

In response to the target of 172 runs, Bangladesh were dismissed for 98 runs in 19.1 overs. Dwayne Bravo failed to pick a wicket in his 3-over spell, but he contributed with 3 catches. Bravo overall picked 15 catches from 34 matches in the T20 World Cup History.

 

6. Martin Guptill (New Zealand): 3 catches vs Pakistan, 2016

Former New Zealand opener, Martin Guptill, took 3 catches against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2016 and won the match for New Zealand with his all-round performance.

New Zealand, batting first at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali, scored 180/5 from their 20 overs, with Martin Guptill smashing 80 runs from 48 balls.

With the ball, New Zealand restricted Pakistan to 158/5 in 20 overs, with Mitchell Santner and Adam Milne picking up 2 wickets each. Martin Guptill took the catches of both openers and an important catch of Umar Akmal too.

The hard-hitting opener of New Zealand picked up 19 catches from 28 matches in T20 World Cup history.

 

5. Brett Lee (Australia): 3 catches vs Sri Lanka, 2007

Australian speedster Brett Lee took 3 catches against Sri Lanka in the 2007 inaugural T20 World Cup. Sri Lanka, batting first at Cape Town, were dismissed for 101 runs in 19.3 overs.

Brett Lee took 2 wickets for 27 runs in his 4 overs, along with 3 catches. Australia won the match by 10 wickets with 58 balls remaining, as Matthew Hayden smashed 58 runs from 38 balls.

 

4. Sulieman Benn (West Indies): 3 catches vs Australia, 2009

Sulieman Benn took 3 catches against Australia at the Kennington Oval, London, in the 2009 T20 World Cup. Australia, batting first, scored 169/7 in their 20 overs.

Sulieman Benn failed to pick up a single wicket in his 4 overs spell, but he contributed with 3 catches, which involved the catch of well-set Warner. The West Indies chased down the target of 170 runs in 15.5 overs, with Chris Gayle smashing 88 runs from 50 balls.

 

3. Daren Sammy (West Indies): 4 catches vs Ireland, 2010

Daren Sammy took 4 catches against Ireland at the Providence Stadium, Guyana in match 2 of the 2010 T20 World Cup. While batting first, the West Indies scored 138/9 in 20 overs, with Daren Sammy contributing 30 runs from 17 balls, and with the ball, he picked up 3 wickets for just 8 runs in 3.4 overs.

Sammy also grabbed 4 catches, including the catches of former Irish captain William Porterfield and his opening partner, Paul Stirling.

The South African captain Aiden Markram, who failed to leave an impact with the bat, contributed in the field with 4 catches, picking up the most important catch of Mahmudullah when Bangladesh needed 6 runs from the last 2 balls.

South Africa, batting first, posted a total of 113/6 runs. Tanzim Hasan Sakib picked up 3 wickets for Bangladesh in his 4-over spell. Bangladesh, in the run chase, were restricted to 109 runs by South Africa, with Keshav Maharaj picking up 3 wickets for 27 runs in 4 overs.

 

1. Glenn Maxwell (Australia): 4 catches vs Namibia, 2024

Australian spin-bowling allrounder Glenn Maxwell took 4 catches against Namibia in the 24th match of the T20 World Cup 2024. Australia bowled first, dismissing Namibia for a total of just 72 runs.

Adam Zampa picked up 4 wickets, and Maxwell, who did not bat, contributed with 4 catches. Australia chased down the total by 9 wickets in the powerplay itself.
