A lot of times we have seen teams getting bowled out for a low score in a T20 World Cup match. The Netherlands and Uganda (39 runs) hold the joint record for scoring the lowest team total in T20 World Cup history.

10. Bangladesh: 70 vs New Zealand | Kolkata, 2016

Bangladesh were bundled for 70 runs in a run chase of 146 runs against New Zealand at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, in match 28 of the T20 World Cup 2016.

Batting first, New Zealand put up a total of 145/8 in 20 overs. New Zealand’s captain, Kane Williamson, played a crucial knock of 42 runs off 32 deliveries as an opener, while Mustafizur Rahman picked up a five-wicket haul for Bangladesh.

In response, Grant Elliott and Ish Sodhi picked up 3 wickets each, bowling out Bangladesh for 70 runs and winning the match by 75 runs.

9. Hong Kong: 69 vs Nepal | Chattogram, 2014

Nepal stunned Hong Kong in the second match of the 2014 edition by beating them by 80 runs and bowling them out for just 69 runs.

Nepal batting first scored 149/8 in their 20 overs. Gyanendra Malla top-scored with his knock of 48 runs from 41 balls, and for Hong Kong, Haseeb Amjad picked up 3 wickets.

In reply to Nepal’s target, Hong Kong were dismissed for 69 runs. Nepal’s Basant Regmi and Shakti Gauchan picked up 3 wickets, while Sompal Kami picked up 2.

8. Ireland: 68 vs West Indies | Providence, 2010

Ireland, bowling first against the West Indies in match 2 of the T20 World Cup 2010, restricted them to a total of 138/9 in 20 overs, with George Dockrell picking up 3 wickets for 16 runs in his 4 overs spell. Daren Sammy scored 30 runs off 18 balls to take the Windies innings to a respectable total.

In return, the Windies pacers won the match for their team, as Ireland were all out for 68 runs. Ravi Rampaul picked up 3 wickets with the new ball, and Daren Sammy picked up 3 wickets, coming in to bowl as the third bowler. Ireland lost the match by 70 runs.

7. Scotland: 60 vs Afghanistan | Sharjah, 2021

Batting first, Afghanistan scored 190/4 in 20 overs. Mohammad Shahzad provided a quick start, Najibullah Zardran smashed a fifty, while Hazratullah Zazai and Rahmanullah Gurbaz contributed with their 40s.

In response, Scotland were bowled out for 60 runs as Afghanistan’s Mujeeb Ur Rahman picked up 5 wickets and Rashid Khan took 4 wickets, helping their team win the match by a record margin of 130 runs in 2021.

The Afghani spinners took the first four wickets of Scotland, including the wicket of the hard-hitting opening batter, George Munsey. Rashid ended the innings by taking consecutive wickets of Josh Davey and Bradley Wheal.

6. New Zealand: 60 vs Sri Lanka | Chattogram, 2014

Rangana Herath’s magical spell of 5 wickets for 3 runs helped Sri Lanka bowl out New Zealand for just 60 runs in the 2014 T20 World Cup.

Sri Lanka batting first were too bowled out for a low total of 119 runs, with Trent Boult and James Neesham picking up 3 wickets each.

For New Zealand in the run chase, only Kane Williamson stepped up with a knock of 42 runs from 43 balls, but he was run out by Angelo Mathews. His wicket was the final nail in the coffin.

5. Uganda: 58 Vs Afghanistan | Guyana, 2024

Batting first, Afghanistan scored 183/5 runs in their 20 overs with their openers, Rahmanullah Gurbaz (76) and Ibrahim Zadran (70), putting up an opening stand of 154 runs.

While defending, Afghanistan registered a win of 125 runs over Uganda by bowling them out for just 58 runs in the T20 World Cup 2024. Fazalhaq Farooqi picked up a five-wicket haul by giving away 9 runs in his 4 overs.

4. West Indies: 55 vs England | Dubai, 2021

England bowled out the West Indies for just 55 runs in 2021. Adil Rashid bowled a spell of 2.2 overs, picking up 4 wickets while conceding only 2 runs. Moeen Ali, who was the Player of the Match, took 2 wickets in the powerplay, bowled a maiden over, and conceded only 17 runs in his 4 overs.

England chased down the target of 56 runs in 8.2 overs by 6 wickets, with Jos Buttler anchoring the innings with his knock of 24 runs from 22 balls.

3. Netherlands: 44 vs Sri Lanka | Sharjah, 2021

Batting first, the Netherlands were bowled out for 44 runs against Sri Lanka in Sharjah. Wanindu Hasaranga and Lahiru Kumara picked up a 3 wickets each, and Maheesh Theekshan picked up 2 wickets.

The Netherlands were bowled out for 39 runs in the 2014 T20 World Cup. Batting first, the Dutch batters failed to understand the mystery spin of Ajantha Mendis, who took 3 wickets for 12 runs from 2.3 overs, and Angelo Mathews also picked up a three-wicket haul.

Sri Lanka chased the target with ease in 5 overs with 9 wickets and 90 balls in hand.

1. Uganda: 39 vs West Indies | Guyana, 2024

Uganda, playing their first-ever T20 World Cup, were dismissed by the West Indies for 39 runs in 2024. Uganda won the toss and opted to bowl first.

The Windies scored 173 runs on the board, with Johnson Charles scoring 44 runs from 42 balls and Andre Russell providing the late finish with his knock of 30 runs from 17 balls.

Uganda lost 5 wickets in the powerplay itself.  The Windies’ Akeal Hosein picked up a five-wicket haul, and Alzarri Joseph took 2 wickets in 3 overs to wrap up Uganda for 39 runs.
