In the history of the T20 World Cup, we have witnessed some great batting performances. Brendon McCullum holds the record for the highest individual score, as he scored 123 against Bangladesh in 2012.

10. Mahela Jayawardene (Sri Lanka): 100 (64) vs Zimbabwe (2010)

Mahela Jayawardene scored his first T20I century in the 2010 T20 World Cup against Zimbabwe. Batting first, Sri Lanka posted 173/7 on the board, with no other batter than Mahela crossing 25 runs. He completed his century in 63 balls before being dismissed by Ray Price on the 64th ball.

Zimbabwe, in response to Sri Lanka’s target, were able to play only 5 overs before the rain interrupted the game, and Sri Lanka won the match by 14 runs as per the DLS method.

9. Chris Gayle (West Indies): 100 (48) vs England (2016)

Chris Gayle in the 2016 T20 World Cup smashed his second T20I century. The left-handed opener scored 100* off 48 balls against England at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

Batting first, England scored 182/6 runs in their 20 overs, and Joe Root top-scored for them with his knock of 48 runs from 36 runs. Dwayne Bravo and Andre Russell picked up two wickets each for the West Indies.

The West Indies chased down the total in 18.1 overs, with Gayle’s century and Marlon Samuels scoring 37 runs from 27 balls.

8. Jos Buttler (England): 101* (67) vs Sri Lanka (2021)

Jos Buttler smashed 101* off 67 balls against Sri Lanka in the T20 World Cup 2021 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on a slow and turning wicket. Buttler’s hundred and Eoin Morgan’s 40-run knock helped them score 163/4 runs on the board. Wanindu Hasaranga picked up 3 wickets.

The English spinners picked up five wickets combined as Sri Lanka lost the match by 26 runs. They were bowled out for 137 runs in 19 overs.

7. Suresh Raina (India): 101 (60) vs South Africa (2010)

Suresh Raina, in the 2010 T20 World Cup, became the first Indian batter to score a T20I hundred. He achieved this feat against South Africa at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia.

India, batting first, scored 186/5 in their 20 overs. Raina scored 101 runs from 60 balls and Yuvraj Singh scored 37 runs from 30 balls. South Africa failed to chase the target, losing the match by 14 runs.

6. Tamim Iqbal (Bangladesh): 103* (63) vs Oman (2016)

Tamim Iqbal scored 103* off 63 balls against Oman in the 2016 T20 World Cup. Bangladesh, batting first, posted 180/2 on the board with Tamim’s century, Sabbir Rahman’s 44 runs from 26 balls, and Shakib’s finishing touch of 17 runs from 9 balls.

Oman lost the match by a margin of 54 runs through the DLS method as the rain interrupted the match.

5. Rilee Rossouw (South Africa): 109 (56) vs Bangladesh (2022)

In the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, Rilee Rossouw smashed 109 runs from 56 balls against Bangladesh at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Sydney. Rossouw’s hundred and Quinton de Kock’s 63-run knock helped them score 205 runs in their 20 overs.

Bangladesh in the run chase were bowled out for 101 runs in 16.3 overs as Anrich Nortje picked up 4 wickets and Tabraiz Shamsi picked up 3 wickets for South Africa.

4. Ahmed Shehzad (Pakistan): 111* (62) vs Bangladesh (2014)

Pakistani opener Ahmed Shehzad scored 111* off 62 balls against Bangladesh in match 27 of the T20 World Cup 2014. Pakistan, batting first, scored 190/5 in their 20 overs with Shehzad’s ton and Shahid Afridi’s 9-ball 22-run cameo.

Bangladesh lost the match by 50 runs as Pakistan restricted them to 140/7. Shakib Al Hasan top scored for Bangladesh with his knock of 38 runs from 32 balls, and Umar Gul picked up 3 wickets for 30 runs in his 4 overs spell for Pakistan.

3. Alex Hales (England): 116* (64) vs Sri Lanka (2014)

Alex Hales’ 116* off 64 balls against Sri Lanka is one of the finest knocks ever played by a batter in T20 World Cup history. Sri Lanka, batting first, scored 189/4 from their 20 overs, with Mahela Jayawardene scoring 89 runs off 51 deliveries and Tillakaratne Dilshan contributing with a fifty.

England in the run chase lost two wickets in the first over but later chased down the target with 4 balls remaining. Hales’ ton and Morgan’s 57-run knock helped them chase the target.

2. Chris Gayle (West Indies): 117 (57) vs South Africa (2007)

Chris Gayle was the first batter in the history of the T20 World Cup to score a century. He achieved this feat in the first match itself, facing South Africa at the Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg in the 2007 T20 World Cup.

The West Indies, batting first, scored 205/6, with Chris Gayle smashing 117 runs from 55 balls. South Africa chased down the total in 17.4 overs with 8 wickets remaining.
