5. New Zealand | 8 Wins

New Zealand won 8 consecutive home Test series from 2017 to 2021 under the leadership of Kane Williamson. They also became the No. 1 ICC-ranked Test team in the year after sweeping the series at home against Pakistan.

New Zealand’s best home series win during this period came against India in 2020 at home. New Zealand outplayed the No. 1 ICC-ranked Test team in a 2-match series.

The Blackcaps won both matches, with Tim Southee and Trent Boult picking up the most wickets, while Tom Latham and Tom Blundell scored over 100 runs.

4. West Indies | 8 Wins

The West Indies also won 8 consecutive home Test series from 1976 to 1986, when Clive Llyod was the captain of the team.

The West Indies’s home dominance started in March 1976, when they registered a 2-1 victory over India in a 4-match Test series. The series was level until the third Test, but the West Indies won the fourth Test by 10 wickets and clinched the series.

The streak continued until February 1986, when the West Indies registered a famous 5-0 win over England. The Windies dominated in all five Tests, with Desmond Haynes scoring 469 runs at an average of 78, and both Joel Garner and Malcolm Marshall took 27 wickets each in the series.

3. Australia | 10 Wins

Australia were a dominant side at home. They won 10 consecutive home Test series from 2004 to 2008, when Ricky Ponting was leading the team to convincing victories.

The streak started in July 2004 when Australia beat Sri Lanka by 1-0 in a 2-match Test series. The second Test was drawn, but the first was won by the Aussies by a margin of 149 runs, with Glenn McGrath picking up 7 wickets in the match.

Australia’s dominance from 2004 to 2008 also included a 5-0 win over their arch-rivals England, winning the Ashes series, and giving a great farewell to Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath, who retired after the last Test.

2. Australia | 10 Wins

Before Ricky Ponting, it was Steve Waugh who showed Australia’s dominance to the world. He led Australia to 10 consecutive home Test series wins from 1994 to 2001. Under Steve Waugh, Australia won two Ashes Series by 3-1 in 1994-95 and 1998-99.

This dominance continued till 2001, when Australia beat the West Indies by 5-0, clean sweeping them in the series, with Michael Slater top-scoring with 249 runs at an average of 53 and Glenn McGrath picking up 21 wickets at an average of 17.

1. India | 17 Wins

India has won 17 consecutive home Test series since 2013, when they beat Australia in the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) by 4-0 under the leadership of MS Dhoni.

Post MS Dhoni’s retirement, Virat Kohli became India’s Test captain and he led India for the first time in a home series in 2015 against South Africa. India won the series by 3-0. India then beat England, New Zealand, South Africa (second time), and Australia in 2017.

During Kohli’s tenure, Ajinkya Rahane was the Indian vice-captain who led India in 2 Tests and in a one-off Test series during this period, winning the series and a Test while playing a draw against New Zealand in 2021.

After Virat Kohli stepped down as captain, Rohit Sharma was appointed as the new skipper, and India registered two famous Test series wins under him, winning the BGT in 2023 and the 5-match series against England in 2024.
