5. Stephen Fleming (New Zealand) | 98 Wins

Former New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming led the Kiwis in 218 matches and won 98 of them. Fleming’s win percentage was 44.95.

As a captain, Stephen Fleming scored 6295 runs in 208 innings, averaging 33 with bat and scoring 7 centuries and 38 half-centuries.

4. Hansie Cronje (South Africa) | 99 Wins

Hansie Cronje, the former South Africa captain who led the side for the first time in 1994, won 99 matches out of 138 matches. His win percentage was 71.73.

Cronje averaged 38 with the bat as South African captain, scoring 4070 runs in 128 innings and scoring 31 half-centuries.

Hansie Cronje led South Africa in the 1996 and the 1999 Cricket World Cups (CWC). In 1996, he took his team to the quarterfinals and in the 1999 CWC, he took South Africa to the semi-finals where their match was tied against Australia and they were knocked out.

3. Allan Border (Australia) | 107 Wins

Allan Border led Australia in 178 ODIs, winning 107 of them, with a win percentage of 60.

In 1987, Allan Border became the first Australian captain to win the ICC Cricket World Cup. He led the Australian team in the CWC 1992 also but failed to qualify for the semi-finals.

The left-hander scored 4439 runs in 165 innings as the Australian captain, averaging 32 with the bat and scoring 2 centuries and 27 half-centuries.

2. MS Dhoni (India) | 110 Wins

Former Indian captain MS Dhoni won 2 ICC 50-over tournaments as a captain. He won the Cricket World Cup in 2011 and the Champions Trophy in 2013.

The wicketkeeper-batter led India in 200 ODIs, winning 110 of them. Dhoni’s win percentage as the India captain was 55.

The right-hander scored 6641 runs as a captain in 172 innings at an average of 53 and a strike rate of 86.

MS Dhoni became the Player of the Match in the final of the Cricket World Cup 2011 for scoring 91* runs from 79 balls in a run chase of 275 runs. He smashed the winning six for India.

1. Ricky Ponting (Australia) | 165 Wins

Ricky Ponting is the most successful Australian captain and he has won the most matches as a captain in ODIs.

The right-hander led Australia in 165 ODIs, winning 165 of them. His win percentage was 71.

Ponting is the only Australian captain in the history of the Cricket World Cup to win the tournament twice as a captain. He led Australia to title triumph in 2003 and 2007 World Cups.

Ricky Ponting also holds the record for winning the most matches as a captain in Cricket World Cup history. He led Australia in CWC in 29 matches, winning 26 of them. Ponting’s side remained unbeaten throughout the 2003 and 2007 campaigns.

The right-hander also led Australia to consecutive wins in the Champions Trophy. He won CT in 2006 and 2009.
