10. Mahela Jayawardene (Sri Lanka): 100 (64) vs Zimbabwe (2010)

Mahela Jayawardene scored his first T20I century in the 2010 T20 World Cup against Zimbabwe. Batting first, Sri Lanka posted 173/7 on the board, with no other batter than Mahela crossing 25 runs. He completed his century in 63 balls before being dismissed by Ray Price on the 64th ball.

Zimbabwe, in response to Sri Lanka’s target, were able to play only 5 overs before the rain interrupted the game, and Sri Lanka won the match by 14 runs as per the DLS method.

9. Chris Gayle (West Indies): 100 (48) vs England (2016)

Chris Gayle in the 2016 T20 World Cup smashed his second T20I century. The left-handed opener scored 100* off 48 balls against England at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

Batting first, England scored 182/6 runs in their 20 overs, and Joe Root top-scored for them with his knock of 48 runs from 36 runs. Dwayne Bravo and Andre Russell picked up two wickets each for the West Indies.

The West Indies chased down the total in 18.1 overs, with Gayle’s century and Marlon Samuels scoring 37 runs from 27 balls.

Oman lost the match by a margin of 54 runs through the DLS method as the rain interrupted the match.

Chris Gayle was the first batter in the history of the T20 World Cup to score a century. He achieved this feat in the first match itself, facing South Africa at the Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg in the 2007 T20 World Cup.
