5. Kyle Mayers (West Indies): 210* Runs vs Bangladesh, 2021

Kyle Mayers’ Test debut in Chattogram against Bangladesh, starting from February 3rd, will be counted as one of the best match-winning performances of all time. Mayers, relatively unknown in international cricket up until that point, made 210* in the fourth innings to script one of the most remarkable wins for the West Indies.

Set a formidable target of 395, Mayers played with composure and assurance to single-handedly steer the game in his side’s favour. His aggressive but smart batting was on full display in his unbeaten 210 in the second innings.

4. Mathew Sinclair (New Zealand): 214 Runs vs West Indies, 1999

The right-handed New Zealand batsman Mathew Sinclair is also worth mentioning, who made a heap of 214 runs on his Test debut against the West Indies at Wellington on 26th December 1999.

His very first Test match saw Sinclair come in to bat in a very patient and composed manner, which saw him score the eighth Test double hundred for New Zealand up to that time. This knock is still considered to be one of the most famous innings that anyone has seen in his or her lifetime.

Sinclair remained the chief architect of the Kiwis’ huge total scoring 214 in the process, and the Kiwis declared their innings at 518/9. 3. Lawrence Rowe (West Indies): 214 Runs vs New Zealand, 1972

Lawrence Rowe’s debut against New Zealand at Sabina Park in Kingston on 16 February 1972 was a masterclass in composure and brilliance. Scoring 214 in the first innings and following it up with an unbeaten 100* in the second, Rowe became the first — and to this day, the only — batsman to score a double century and a century on Test debut.

2. Jacques Rudolph (South Africa): 222* runs vs Bangladesh, 2003

It was on April 24, 2003, when South African cricketer Jacques Rudolph penned his trademark in the record books of Test cricket by producing a rousing, unbeaten knock of 222 against Bangladesh in Chattogram.

On 11 Dec 1903, Tip Foster made his debut against Australia at Sydney, which set a record that would be eclipsed for many decades to come. It was during the Ashes series that Foster entered the crease and scored an astonishing 287 in the first innings, the highest which has been made on debut in a Test innings till today.

The English batsman was no one in scoring an inning of class and aggression against the fierce Australian bowlers in their homeland. Constraint was focused on Foster’s innings; this was not just an individual achievement but a vital complement in building English supremacy in the game.
